Speech&More OverviewWelcome to the world of Speech&More. On these pages we tell you what we can do for you. We offer know-how and services in areas related to speech and natural language processing, based on the expertise we have built through our ongoing scientific research at ftw. | ||
| Our institutional status is as one of the currently twelve research projects at the Forschungszentrum Telekommunikation Wien (ftw.). So if you like, please visit also the pages of the ftw. research center and our own research-project page. | ||
| We are the only institution working actively to provide resources and algorithms that make speech recognition work well with Austrian accents of German. The key result of this work is the Speechdat-AT database of Austrian German telephone speech, a valuable resource that can be obtained from us under certain conditions. | ||
| The c. 95 million speakers of German use a wide array of different local dialects and accents. However, experiments have shown that only Swiss German (4 million speakers) and Austrian German (8 million speakers) can be reliably distinguished by most native speakers. | ||
| For the benefit of our partners in the telecommunications industry, we constantly monitor the latest market and technology trends in voice technology, especially for voice as an interface to data services, IVR systems, and wireless internet. We have started to produce Market Reports and Technology Reports that make this information easily accessible in a concise form. You can buy selected reports from us. | ||
| How big will the Voice Web be? Is the technology in place? Can one build combined visual and voice interfaces on smartphones? What products are available for the German language, and for Austrian German in particular? | ||
| Is your organization considering to start a project that involves language/speech technology? Are you looking for an independent partner without vested interest in particular products or development contracts, but who can give expert advice? We can provide highly-qualified consulting in a number of flexible formats. | ||
| We have already organized trainings and evaluated the technical feasibility of application ideas that our partners had. | ||
| Once we have met and discussed our mutual interests in the technology, you may well find that you want to benefit directly from our research work by joining the project, like our current partners have done already. This gives them - and could give you - unrestricted access to everything produced in the framework of our multilateral activities. | ||
